HOLIDAY SPONSOR PROJECT
At Family Support Services, our goal is to support parents and caregivers in creating a positive holiday experience and a nurturing environment for children and youth. Our Holiday Sponsor program is a project that brings joy to families and donors alike during the holiday season. It also enhances the services we provide year round.
You are welcome to participate on your own by making a monetary contribution to the program, but sponsoring a family is also a wonderful bonding or team-building experience for family members, co-workers, or members of a social club.
How Can I Give as a Holiday Sponsor?
Family sizes range from small (2 person), medium-sized (3-4 person), or large (4+ person). You can sponsor one or more families and we encourage sponsors to give at the level that is most comfortable for them. Once you are matched, we will provide you a wish list completed by a family in need, which will include each family member’s first name, age, and wish list items. The last name given will be fictitious in order to protect the family’s identity.
When sponsors have received their family’s wish list, it is time to start shopping! Gifts and/or gift cards may be dropped off at our Oakland office (address in footer), weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This year we are asking that all donations be received by the second week of December. This will allow families to receive their gifts or shop for their wish list items prior to their winter holiday celebration. Gift cards for stores like Target, Walmart, or Safeway are especially useful to our families in need of basic amenities. BART or Muni passes are also wonderful ways to help. Public transit passes of any denomination are also accepted.
We will distribute gifts and gift cards to those most in need during the holidays – they are the easiest way for you to have an immediate, direct impact.
