KYP in the Community

Monthly service projects help KYP participants to develop a sense of involvement in their community.

Lake Merritt clean-up Lake Merritt Clean-up Project:
KYP youth designed and led a Saturday clean-up of a portion of the Lake Merritt shoreline, which sometimes collects debris from storm drains and other sources. Using tools and supplies made available by the Lake Merritt Institute, our youth spent a day beautifying the lake. (learn more)

Organizing Food Drives for Families in Need:
KYP maintains a monthly effort to help provide assorted groceries to West Oakland families in need. This partnership with Taylor United Memorial Methodist Church involves organizing donated non-perishable food items, providing a hot lunch meal, and setting up/cleaning up the various food stations.  Litter-Abatement Litter Abatement: Cleaning up our Parks!
The youth in KYP understand that the parks belong to everyone, and we all play an important role in keeping them clean and safe. Our litter abatement projects are a time for youth to play a personal role in keeping Oakland parks beautiful. Even our youngest participants can get into the action!
