Friends and Supporters,
We were shocked and saddened to learn of allegations of sexual misconduct by a former staff member, who previously worked as the program manager of our Kinship Youth Program.
We cannot discuss the specifics of this staff member’s employment or why his employment ended, but we can confirm that on August 26, 2019, we informed this individual that his employment was ending. He was not employed with Family Support Services at the time of his death. We cooperated fully with the Berkeley Police Department as they investigated the allegations made. We do not know the full scope or specifics of the police department’s investigation and therefore cannot comment on the allegations.
We have informed all current and former families, whose children were in the Kinship Youth Program during this former staff member’s tenure about the allegations, and his death, and the possibility of media coverage. We urged them to consult with their children’s primary care physicians or mental health care providers, if they have reason to believe their children may have been affected by this situation. Additionally, we urged them to contact the Berkeley Police Department if they had concerns about interactions with their children.
Our hearts go out to everyone involved in these tragic events.
