Why Family Support Services?
Founded 27 years ago, Family Support Services specializes in working with low-income families in Alameda, San Francisco, and Contra Costa counties who face serious challenges in caring for their children, including: families in which grandparents or other relatives have had to step in to care for children; families with children who have mental and physical disabilities; and caregivers raising children who are substance exposed or medically fragile. We also work with families whose children are at risk of abuse by helping adults and caregivers improve their parenting skills and raise children in a secure and nurturing environment.
Kinship Support Services Program - an alternative to traditional foster care that provides support to allow relative caregivers to keep their children in their homes through case management, support groups, parenting workshops for children who have experienced trauma or abandonment, legal assistance, and youth services.
Kinship Youth Program - a year-round comprehensive after-school and summer program for kinship youth, ages 8-18.
Growing Up Strong - provides mental health therapy to children exposed to trauma, maltreatment, or violence.
Respite Care - gives parents/caregivers a break from the daily demands of caring for children who are medically fragile or have developmental disabilities.
Family Preservation Program - supports families identified as at-risk by County Child Welfare departments, to improve their parenting skills and family functioning.

What we need: $20,000 is our campaign goal.
Where will the funds go: The funds will be used to support the Kinship Youth Program. If we raise our goal this spring, we can plan our full summer and fall programming for our community’s most under-served children and youth. This means our kids will receive:
- One-on-one academic support, including tutoring and our special Reading Fluency Literacy program
- Special field trips, like the Pegasus Voyages sailing trip on San Francisco Bay
- College tours and applications for our high schoolers getting ready to graduate, and much more!
