Members of the Kinship Youth Program’s Junior Leadership Group recently conducted a food drive at a local Safeway store. As part of this community service engagement, these young leaders reached out to Safeway customers to request non-perishable food donations for local families in need.
All items donated were then used to support KYP’s monthly event with Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church in West Oakland where food bags are provided to families in need.
Due to the shortage of food available at our local food banks, this extra effort by these young leaders goes a long way towards helping to ensure enough food is available on distribution days at Taylor Church.
Special thanks to Safeway (particularly the 51st Avenue store in Oakland) for its continued support of this effort, and for helping to provide meaningful opportunities for Oakland youth to make a difference in their community!
