Our Kinship Youth Program began over 10 years ago, and one of our greatest successes has been keeping children and youth engaged with the program over the course of many years. An exciting result is that each year at the beginning of summer, we have new high school graduates to celebrate!
Meet Sharonda and Damian, two exceptional young people who have grown up with our Kinship Youth Program, and who are excited to be high school graduates!
My name is Sharonda. I am 17 years old, and I have been a participant in this program for 6 years. Over the years, my leadership opportunities grew. I am now seen as a leader so I have to make sure that I’m setting a good example for the kids looking up to me at all times. Throughout the school year, I have participated in multiple activities that I have enjoyed. We’ve been to the movies, ice skating, college tours, picnics at the park, and had girls days. I enjoyed those activities because it gave me a chance to shine as a leader, and get to know the younger kids on a more personal level. Click to read more.
Hi I’m Damian. I have been in KYP for 9 years now, and it has been a big part of my life. When I came here I was one of the younger kids in the program, and as I got older, I learned a lot by watching the older kids ahead of me. As I started to get older, I tried to be a good role model to my younger brothers, so they would look up to someone the way I did. We all live with my grandmother and whenever I was part of something with KYP, I know she felt good knowing we were doing good things. Click to read more.
