Family Support Services of the Bay Area’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Smith to replace Lou Fox, FSSBA’s Co-founder and Executive Director of 25 years, who is retiring in 2015. Cheryl will begin her duties on January 12, 2015.
“It is a privilege to be chosen to succeed such an outstanding leader as Ms. Fox. I am excited to become a part of FSSBA to continue the life-changing support we provide to children and families in the Bay Area,” said Ms. Smith.
Under Lou Fox's 25 years of leadership, FSSBA has served over 20,000 children and their 10,000 families successfully helping to eliminate child abuse and neglect and supporting caregivers to help keep families together.
Cheryl Smith's professional career is a blend of work in non-profit, government and corporate organizations where she is known for working to create opportunities for underserved communities. Most recently she served as the Director of Community Affairs for Lennar Corporation to ensure the social and economic benefits of two of the most significant urban development projects in San Francisco.
Ms. Smith's career has included serving as the Deputy Director of First 5 Contra Costa; being the first Executive Director of the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA; and serving in health education with the city of San Francisco. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from SF State University. She is the mother of two children.
The Board of Directors is pleased to welcome such a talented executive as Ms. Smith to continue Lou Fox’s remarkable legacy and to lead FSSBA into its future.
